New SMB Wii Already Outselling Mario Galaxy

image

What Super Mario Galaxy did in two years, Late Tiptop Mario Bros. Wii did in 45 days.

Let's get the record straight: I dead adored 2007's Super Mario Extragalactic nebula. IT remains, to this day, easily incomparable of my favorite games of the generation. Brilliant level design, peachy mechanics, and a wonderful sense of beguile that other games that don't feature a pudgy plumber gleefully flaring through infinite wide-armed only put on't have. So did plenty of separate people, which is why it sold 4.1 million copies intercontinental since its launch in Nov 2007.

Just as IT turns out, thither's something to be said for familiarity, too: According to data from widely-trusted number-crunchers NPD group, New Super Mario Bros. Wii has sold 4.2 1000000 since its launch in November 2009 – in other words, it's surpassed its big brother with cardinal years to spare.

That makes sense, when you look at it. Many more people consume Wiis now than they did when Galaxy came out, and there's something straightaway recognizable about NSMBW's modular venerable-schoolhouse platforming. It's probably a lot easier for a gamer Oregon a parent to say "Buckeye State hey, I remember that from when I was a kid!" and pick it up to wreak with household and friends like it was 19-freakin'-90.

Still, New Super Mario Bros. Wii is nobelium Extragalactic nebula, nosiree.
