The Glynn Academy and Brunswick High baseball teams will square off this week in a three-game Region 2-AAAAAA series that also will decide the City Championship.

The Pirates and Red Terrors will meet for Game 1 tonight at Adam Wainwright Field which is the home park for the Terrors.

The series moves over to Bud Couch Field on the Brunswick campus for Game 2 on Wednesday night with the third game of the set scheduled for Wainwright Field on Friday night.

All three games are set for 6 p.m.

The local rivals did not play last season as spring sports were shut down due to the Covid-19 pandemic prior to their scheduled meeting.

Brunswick won all three games against the Terrors back in 2019.

Glynn enters the week with a 9-4 overall record that includes a 5-1 mark in region games.

The Pirates are 8-5 on the season with a 3-3 record in league action.

In the region race, Effingham is 3-0 after taking all three games against struggling Bradwell Institute to open its region slate last week. The Rebels had the opening week of region action off in the seven-team region.

Statesboro and Glynn are both 5-1 in the standings after playing two three-game series. BHS follows them with its 3-3 ledger, Richmond Hill is 2-4, South Effingham is 0-3 and Bradwell is 0-6.

The Terrors swept South Effingham two weeks ago to begin the region schedule. Last week, Glynn won the first two games against Richmond Hill before falling in the third game on Friday at home.

Brunswick won its opening series against Richmond Hill. The Pirates dropped the first game, but bounced back to take the next two including a 6-0 win at Richmond Hill to close the series. The Pirates lost their first game last week at home to Statesboro before winning the second game at home and dropping the third game on the road after losing a four-run lead in the seventh inning.

B HS catcher Skiles Tawney and pitcher Kyle Lodise talk during a game this season.

The starting pitchers for tonight's game figure to be junior Kyle Lodise for the Pirates and Shaun Munoz for the Terrors. Lodise pitched both opening games for the Pirates in the first two region series as Munoz also worked the two opening games for the Terrors in their series. Last Monday, Munoz threw eight no-hit innings for Glynn as they won 1-0 over the Wildcats at the Waino.

The Pirates are expected to pitch senior left-hander Isaiah Wellman and junior righty Chamberlin Dent in the second and third games of the series.

Glynn went with junior right-hander Tom Echols in the second game last week against Richmond Hill and senior lefty Blake Wood in the third game. The previous week against South Effingham, Wood pitched the middle game and Echols threw the third game for the Terrors.

Among the players to watch for the Pirates are outfielder Nick Goff, infielder Devontae Gadson, infielder/outfielder Caden Hutchinson and outfielder Riley Morgan.

Players to keep an eye on for the Terrors are infielder Joe Cutia, infielder Spence Hartman, outfielder Tyler Devlin and catcher Jackson Bufkin.

The Glynn County Sports Hall of Fame will name a Player of the Series at the conclusion of the three-game set.

All three games will have a live audio broadcast by 912 Sports. You can listen by going to www.912sports.net/broadcasts .
